Bangalore: Protests are being held from place to place in the state against the Karnataka High Court's verdict on the hijab issue. In this case, the Karnataka Police has registered an FIR against the activists of the Popular Front of India (PFI), including a lawyer, for forcibly closing the shops. According to the police, an FIR has been lodged against Azeem Ahmed, Mohiddin Abir, Shariq and lawyer Taimur Hussain Gavai at Bhatkal police station. Police have registered these cases under Sections 143, 147 and 290 of the IPC. According to information, the accused had forcibly closed the shops and business establishments on Tuesday (March 15, 2022) against the Karnataka High Court's verdict on the hijab dispute. The coastal town of Bhatkal is considered a communally sensitive area. It is 90 km from Udupi, from where the hijab dispute had gained momentum. Yasin Bhatkal, the founder of the terror outfit Indian Mujahideen, was also born in the same area. In such a situation, there is more radicalization in Bhatkal. In view of this, the police have increased security in the area. The 'Tanzeem' outfit in Bhatkal had called for a bandh in the town and many traders had closed the shops of their own free will. The ruling BJP and Hindutva organisations have alleged that the PFI, Social Democratic Party of India (SDFI) and the Campus Front of India (CFI) are behind the escalation of the hijab controversy in the state. At the same time, Muslim organisations have announced a Karnataka bandh on Thursday (March 17, 2022). A fatwa has also been issued for this purpose. Karnataka's Amir-e-Shariat Maulana Sagir Ahmed Khan Rushdie expressed grief over the high court's verdict and appealed to all Muslim organisations for a Karnataka bandh in protest against it. He released a video message appealing to read the fatwa carefully and be a participant in the bandh. Sagir has announced the Karnataka bandh at a time when Section 144 is in force till March 21 in the entire Karnataka due to the hijab controversy.
