Karnataka Polls LIVE: PM Modi writes open letter to people of the state

New Delhi: A day ahead of the Assembly Polls in Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, May 9, wrote an open letter to the people of the State, highlighting his party's commitment to state's growth and development.

"In our 'Azaadi ka Amrit Kaal', (Golden Days of Independence)  we Indians have aimed to make our beloved country a developed nation. Karnataka is keen to lead the movement to realise its vision. You have always showered me with love and affection. It feels like a divine blessing to me ", PM Modi said in his letter.

"In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, Karnataka received more than Rs 90,000 crore annually as a foreign investment under the BJP government. It was just nearly Rs 30,000 crore under the previous government," the PM wrote.

"India is the fifth-largest economy and our next targetis to reach the top three. This is possible only when Karnataka rapidly grows to become a USD 1 trillion economy," the letter read.

"We are working to empower the farmers with a 'Beej Se Bazar Tak' vision. Through new irrigation projects, expansion of storage facilities, increasing ethanol blending usage of nano area and modern technology such as drones, BJP is committed to making Karnataka the number 1 in agriculture,"  the letter notes.

"We want to make Karnataka number first  in investment, industry and innovation and number 1 in education, employment and entrepreneurship," PM highlifghted his party's commitment.

The PM continued in his letter, "The BJP government will continue to work to create next-generation urban infrastructure in Karnataka, modernise the transport system, improve both the quality of life and opportunities for women and young people."   "My dream is the dream of every citizen of Karnataka." "I'm pleading for Karnataka's prosperous future. It is for your family's good future, especially for the younger generations, the letter noted.

In addition to six roadshows, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at 19 public gatherings. 16 public rallies and 14 roadshows were held by Amit Shah. 10 public meetings and 16 roadshows were held by BJP leader JP Nadda. Election day for the Karnataka legislature is May 10, and results will be tallied on May 13. 113 seats are required to achieve a majority and form a government.
