Karnataka: Thawarchand Gehlot to be sworn in as governor of the State on Sunday

Bengaluru Ex-Union minister Thawarchand Gehlot will be sworn in as the 19th Governor of Karnataka on Sunday, July 11. The information from the Karnataka government reads that former Rajya Sabha MP Gehlot will take oath at 10:30 am at Raj Bhawan in Karnataka.

73-year-old Gehlot will replace Vajubhai R Vala, who has held the post of Governor of Karnataka since 2014. Former Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Gehlot was appointed the new Governor of Karnataka on July 6. He was among the 12 Union Ministers who had resigned from their posts of Council of Ministers ahead of the Union Cabinet expansion on July 7.

He was the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha since 2019. Governor-designate Gehlot has served as BJP's Karnataka unit in charge between 2006 and 2014 when he was party general secretary.

Apart from Gehlot, President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed three new governors. Hari Babu Kambhampati, the former Lok Sabha member from Vishakhapatnam, has been appointed as the Governor of Mizoram. PS Sreedharan Pillai, the current Governor of Mizoram, has been transferred to Goa.
