The Youth Congress, the Youth Wing of the Indian National Congress has been hailed for its service across the country under the banner #SOSIYC as the messiahs of the masses for hospital beds, medicines and most often for Oxygen Cylinders, especially for common people in need, embassies (though controversial), and even people from other political parties that made clear their inability to be able to procure resources. Though the the IYCs service across the country is applauded, a crisis is brewing with regard to the States Youth Congress Leadership in Karnataka, a state currently facing the worst of the brunt of this Pandemic. Even though this hasn’t stopped the State IYC unit from functioning; it raises some unique scenarios. The much touted Youth Congress election in the state, threw up not a mixed bad, but truly a state of confusion. Mohammed Haris Nalapad was the clear winner with 64,203 votes, Raksha Ramaiah was claimed to be the winner (57,271 votes) due to a technicality of disqualification, which has been disputed by several top leaders in the state. This begs the the question; who is the President of the Karnataka Youth Congress? Though both camps claim to be the legitimate winner, the fact that the leadership is undecided was made clear in their allotment of COVID Management responsibilities for the Karnataka Youth Congress Committee. While Vice Presidents and General Secretaries have been given responsibilities of the different zones, it is interesting to note that neither Raksha nor Nalapad have been given either zones or state wide responsibilities within the party. To add to the confusion, sources claim that those incharge of the state have publicly proclaimed that the matter of Youth Congress State President remains undecided. Thus, while Raksha the purported President works, Mohammed Nalapad is also seen continuing to work without the fanfare of the post which Raksha has claimed. This is a matter for the leadership to have sorted at the earliest, but also a matter of public interest seeing as how both the individuals in contention seem to be claiming a much coveted post in the state, which is set to see elections in less than two years.
