IGP Vijay Kumar says terrorists using mosques for attacks in Kashmir

Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Kashmir Vijay Kumar said on Monday that terrorists are using mosques to carry out attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. He has appealed to the people of Kashmir, Masjid Intizamia, citizens, and media to condemn such acts. The media quoted a statement from Kumar as saying, "The terrorists used mosques for terrorist attacks on June 19, 2020, in Pampore, Sopore on July 1, 2020, and Shopian on April 9, 2021".

Earlier on Sunday, IGP Kashmir appealed to the parents of newly recruited terrorists in the valley to remove their children from the path of violence. He had said, "Parents should make frequent appeals to the newly recruited terrorists to come back. Appeals should be made regularly. Parents should not limit themselves to the final appeal when their children stuck in encounters".

At least five militants belonging to the banned group Ansar Ghazwa Tula Hind (AGUH) of terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed were killed in an encounter in Shopian on Friday. During this time, the militants went inside the Jama Masjid, making it difficult for the security forces to carry out the operation. The operation against the terrorists began on Thursday and Friday night after a secret input that five terrorists were hiding inside the mosque. Officials said that within some time the area was sealed and many civilians were evacuated to safer places. The Director-General of Police (DGP) on Sunday said that at least 12 militants have been killed in four different operations in the last 72 hours so far.
