Kashmir University organises sports events as part of 'Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav'

SRINAGAR: The "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebration to mark 75 years of independence was continuing at Kashmir University on Saturday.

The University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Neelofar Khan, launched the School of Law's awareness campaign titled "Background and Importance of National Flag" on Friday.

Addressing a gathering, she asserted that the teachers and students of law schools should do more to educate the public about the significance of the nation's national symbols and events. Every person has a responsibility to honour the national flag, she said.

Three law students presented papers on the historical perspective of the Tricolour, National Flag Code and the Naveen Jindal Case.  A special monetary award for the student speakers was announced by the vice chancellor. The Shaikh-ul Aalam Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies (SACMS) organised a one-day lecture titled "Communal Harmony and Coexistence: A Sufi Perspective" during another celebration in Markaz-i Noor.

The SACMS Chairman, Prof. G.N. Khaki, emphasised the significance of Kashmir's Sufis and Rishis in fostering an atmosphere of peace and tolerance in the Kashmir Valley.

While Prof. Tareak A. Rather, Director, Institute of Kashmir Studies, spoke about the significance of communal harmony in the current world order and the need to re-emphasize it, Prof. Peerzada Irshad A. Shah, Chief Librarian, discussed the importance of peace and the revival of lost virtues while living in the present.
