Kathmandu-Varanasi bike rally commences today

KATHMANDU: In collaboration with Royal Enfield, Kathmandu, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu is organising the "Pashupatinath-Kashi Vishvanath Amrit Mahotsav Motorcycle Rally" between Kathmandu and Varanasi, the two significant cultural and religious hubs of Nepal and India, from November 11-16.

Nearly 50 Indian and Nepali citizens are expected to attend the rally, according to the embassy's press release. The rally aims to strengthen cultural ties between India and Nepal by promoting people-to-people relations.

During the rally, bikers will visit Motihari, where Mahatma Gandhi launched the Champaran Satyagraha in 1917; Sarnath, where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment; and Gorakhnath Math, a holy temple revered by both Indians and Nepalese.

While cultural ties between Nepal and India are centuries old, it is also true that inter-country relations do not improve or last unless people-to-people ties improve. This motorcycle rally aims to highlight the importance of people-to-people ties as a symbol of friendship between Nepal and India. Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale of the Nepalese government has started the bike rally on Thursday from the grounds of Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu.
