Kathua gang rape and murder case:Supreme Court refuses a CBI inquiry

 

 In a Kathua ganged rape and murder case today Supreme Court refused a CBI inquiry in the matter after relying on the state investigation.

The Supreme Court has rejected a CBI probe in the alleged Kathua rape case of an eight year old girl minor and transferred the trial outside of Jammu and Kashmir to Pathankot in Punjab.

The apex court has also issued order for a fast-track trial in the case to be held on a day-to-day basis on camera.

The SC asserted the trial would be in accordance with provisions of Ranbir Penal Code, applicable in J&K, as PTI reported. SC said that since it is seized of the matter, no court shall pass any order with regard to the case.

The Next date of hearing in the  Kathua case is July 9.

A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra,  heard the prayer of the victim's father for shifting the trial to Chandigarh and the plea of the accused seeking handing over the investigation to CBI.

On January 10, the rape-survivor, an eight-year-old girl from a minority nomadic community, had disappeared from near her home in a village near Kathua in the Jammu province. After a week her body was found in the same area.
