KCR to launch national party on Dasara

HYDERABAD: K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), the chief minister of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), is preparing to make a significant statement about his entry into national politics and the formation of a national party to challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. KCR is timing the momentous announcement for Dasara, as per reports. After meeting JDS leader and former chief minister of Karnataka, H.D. Kumaraswamy, in Pragathi Bhavan on Sunday, he is expected to clarify the situation. According to party insiders, Rao would probably introduce the national party on October 5 during Dasara in the city.

But it's unclear whether he will start a national party or turn the TRS into one and rebrand it as the Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti (BRS). There has been speculation about Rao starting a national party before. At the TRS plenary on April 27, he made the first such suggestion, hinting at transforming the TRS into the BRS to play a significant role in national politics.

Rao later discussed organising a meeting of the TRS state executive in the third week of June to adopt a resolution converting the TRS into the BRS. However, as the matter was not moving forward, rumours that he had once again placed the BRS proposal on hold abounded.

In the meantime, the Chief Minister began discussing national politics in the recent Munugode byelection campaign meeting as well as at the public meetings he has been giving in districts over the past two months.

After setting up the national party on Dasara,  Rao would tour different states to set up party committees and conduct political campaigns. Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he will also meet with the leaders of non-BJP parties in an effort to bring them together. He is likely to form pre-election alliances with regional non-BJP parties. In partnership with non-BJP parties, he intends to run candidates from his national party in the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh.

The "Telangana model" of welfare programmes and development initiatives will be promoted by leaders from the farming community, Dalits, and OBC sections running for office in those states, with the promise that they will be implemented throughout India if a non-BJP government takes office at the national level.
