THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 14 year old boy was kidnapped to get back loaned money with a 9-person gang from the nearby state of Tamil Nadu. The police said, the gang had arrived two days ago and conducted a search of the place and the movements of the family members. The boy was taken away by the gang on Monday late at night after his parents left the house, but not before they beat up another boy who tried to stop them. The group drove the boy to the Tamil Nadu border from the boy's house, which is roughly 70 kilometres from the state capital. However, after being informed, the Kerala police acted quickly and outsmarted the gang when they were only 100 metres from the bordering state. The police were able to apprehend the gang's Tamil Nadu-born leader during the confrontation with the kidnappers. The boy was found unconscious as he was sedated. The gang leader admitted under questioning that the boy's family had borrowed Rs 1,000,000 from one of their cousins. The boy's father refused to return the money despite repeated demands, so a gang was hired to kidnap the child with the promise of receiving Rs 1 lakh in exchange. The person in custody claimed that they were instructed to bring the boy to Marthandam, a town close to Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu, so that he could be given to the "relative" who would have demanded payment in full. The car used for commissioning the crime has been seized and a manhunt has been launched to nab the other members of the gang. Of the nine persons, only one is from Kerala.
