'Learn to respect mothers and sisters...', CM Vijayan warns Muslim League leaders

Kochi: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday lashed out at the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), which made indecent remarks on his family during a recent public meeting to protest against his government's Wakf Board policy. He advised the party leadership to learn to respect anyone's mother and sister.

Attacking the IUML for rude slogans and comments at the public meeting, CM Vijayan said that learning etiquette begins with the family. Reacting to the slogans raised at the IUML rally, CM Vijayan questioned why he (IUML) dragged his late father into the Wakf Board issue. At the IUML rally, it was said that Vijayan's late father Mundail Koran used to take out toddy and Kerala has not found him in dowry. On this, CM Vijayan said, "I don't understand why you dragged my poor father into the Wakf Board issue, who passed away when I was studying in high school. What did they do to you? Was it wrong for them to remove the toddy? I have said from the beginning that I am proud that I am the son of the toddy extractor.

CM Vijayan also condemned the indecent remarks made by a Muslim League leader on his marriage to PWD minister PA Muhammad Riyas and his (Vijayan's) daughter Veena. He said that you should learn how to respect your mother and sister. Etiquette should start with family. At a rally organized by the Muslim League in Kozhikode on Thursday, party state secretary Abdurahman Kallai had asked the workers to openly say that Riyas' marriage to Veena last year was illegal.
