In the local body elections in Palakkad district, all the three fronts are showing excellence in many areas. In the Palakkad municipality, where the BJP was influential and ruled, the turnout fell by 2.33 percent this time. Polling declined in two LDF strongholds. In the Left Front-ruled Shornur municipality, the decline was 3.69 percent and in Ottapalam municipality 2.80 percent. This worries both groups. The setback was the failure of Covid patients to cast their votes in the Palakkad municipality. The BJP estimates that progress can be made in 15 wards and the rest will be crucial. The UDF thinks that voting will at least be in their favor. The UDF campaign was led by VK Sreekandan MP and Shafi Parampil MLA. The district panchayat is governed by the LDF. They have the beastly majority of the 27th Division. The UDF thinks it can be reduced. They do not have the confidence to regain power. The direct contest of CPM-CPI candidates in the panchayats has been a headache for the Left Front. The result will be known after the counting of votes.
