NEW DELHI: The name of the best award given to the best performers in the field of sports in the country has been announced. They include star wrestler Bajrang Punia and silver medalist Deepa Malik in the Paralympics. 19 players, including Indian batsman Ravindra Jadeja, have been selected for the Arjuna Award for the year 2019. The 48-year-old Dipa, who won a silver medal in the F53 category at the Rio Paralympics, was named by the 12-member committee for the Sports Gems Award on the second day of the two-day meeting. The committee, led by retired Justice Mukundkam Sharma, had selected the world number one Poonia in 65 kg for the sporting gem on Friday. Six-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist MC Mary Kom did not attend the meeting to avoid conflict of interest. His personal coach, Chhotilal Yadav was involved in the Dronacharya award race. Badminton coach Bimal Kumar will be honoured with the Dronacharya Award. Table tennis coach Sandeep Gupta and A Thaleix coach Mohinder Singh Dhillon have also been selected for the award. Hockey host Patel, Rambir Singh Khokhar from Kabaddi and Sanjay Bhardwaj from Cricket were honoured in Life Time Catagiri. Apart from these, Hockey's Manuel Federicks, Arup Badak of Table Tennis, Manoj Kumar of Wrestling, Nitan Kirtan of Tennis and Lalramsanga of Archery will be awarded the Dhyan Chand Award.
