UJJAIN: 10-year-old is in Madhya Pradesh to participate in the Khelo India Youth Games for the first time and he is aiming at nothing less than gold. When Shauryajit Khaire won a bronze medal in Mallakhamb during the National Games held in Gujarat in 2022, he became the talk of the whole country after becoming the youngest athlete to win a medal at the Games. After his medal at the National Games, PM Modi also congratulated Shauryajit, a Class V student of Vadodara's Bharati Vidya Bhavan, on his success. "I was very proud when I secured the medal at the National Games. People started knowing me. Everyone from the colony to the school expressed joy over my success. I felt good," he said. The youngest athlete at the Khelo India Youth Games 2022, Shauryajit is prepared to top his National Games performance. He stated the following in regards to his plans and intentions: "I'm working really hard this time to get the medal, and I'll get the gold. I shall attempt to earn the most points possible at Ujjain because I am well prepared." The 10-year-old athlete knows little about the Khelo India Youth Games because no one in his family or school has ever participated in sports. Shauryajit's father used to take him to observe and participate in Mallakhamb since he liked the sport. "I practise for two hours every day, but my studies get more of my attention. Malkhamb is never performed at home. Mallakham liked by my father. I used to go with him. I went to see it and thought it was good, so I went with Malkhamb." It is significant that the KIYG 2022 will feature five traditional games, including Mallakhamb. While Yogasana and Malkhamb will be held in Ujjain, other indigenous sports, such as Thang-ta, Kalarippayattu, and Yogasana, will be held in other host cities throughout the state.
