Kim will have a brief meeting with Joe Biden

SEOUL: An official close to South Korean First Lady Kim Keon-hee said Friday that she expects to exchange greetings with US President Joe Biden during a state banquet to be hosted Saturday after summit talks between President Yoon Suk-yeol and Biden.

Biden is set to arrive in South Korea on Friday for a three-day visit as part of his maiden tour to Asia, which will also include a stop in Japan next week. According to Yonhap News Agency, First Lady Jill Biden will not accompany him on his trip.

Because the US first lady is not accompanying Biden, it may be awkward for Kim to join Yoon, but she is likely to attend the welcoming luncheon at the National Museum of Korea on Saturday and meet briefly with Biden, according to the official.

"From what I have heard, first lady Kim will meet and greet Biden for a few minutes," the official said. Kim's participation in the welcoming banquet is uncertain.
