60 percent needy got free rice: Kiran Bedi

Amid the Corona crisis and the lockdown, Puducherry has distributed free rice to the needy. State Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi said that the administration has distributed free rice to more than 60 percent of the needy under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Through this, those who face the Muslims in lockdown will get relief. Talking to news agency PTI, he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government.

In her statement, she said that apart from this, the central government has increased the wages of laborers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) from Rs 229 to Rs 259. The Lt. Governor said that Puducherry is the first government in the country to start MNREGA work after the Union Home Ministry relaxed the lockdown guidelines from April 20.

For your information, let us tell you that in addition to this, he said that under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, in the first week of this month, 500-500 rupees have been transferred to the bank accounts of 83,000 women beneficiaries. Under this, the first installment of Rs 2,000 has been given to 9,299 farmers of the Union Territory under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
