KKR Welcome Shreyas Iyer Back to Training Camp After Spine Specialist Consultation

New Delhi: Team India's middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been given the green light after experiencing discomfort in his back during the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. Although Iyer missed out on scoring a century in the second innings of the final match, he did not participate in the field during the last two days due to his condition. However, he has since joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp and even took part in an intra-squad T20 match on Sunday.

Following his discomfort, Iyer consulted a spine specialist in Mumbai and subsequently visited the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. The doctor assessed his condition and declared him fit to play. However, Iyer has been advised to be cautious about stretching his leg while defending the ball. A source close to the matter stated, "He is fit to play. A specialist spine doctor in Mumbai has advised him not to stretch his leg too far forward while defending the ball. He has joined the IPL franchise KKR and is available for selection."

Iyer's back issues have been a cause for concern in recent times. He first reported a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year, which led to surgery and his subsequent absence from the IPL 2022 season. However, he made a successful return to the Indian team during the Asia Cup 2023, where he showcased his form by scoring 530 runs as the hosts finished as runners-up.

Unfortunately, the 29-year-old experienced discomfort once again during the Test series against England and was subsequently ruled out of India's squad following the Vizag Test match.
