The 26th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is going to be held from 8 to 15 January 2021. Earlier, this festival is postponed from November due to the corona pandemic. CM Mamata Banerjee is going to inaugurate the event virtually. According to the reports, Satyajit Ray’s classic film 'Apur Sansar' will be filmed at the inauguration ceremony for celebrating the filmmaker's birth anniversary as well as to honour legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who passed away in 2020. The organizers of the festival will also pay homage to veterans like Basu Chatterjee, Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Amala Shankar and Santu Mukherjee. Earlier, a press conference also took place for this festival at Sisir Manch and many ministers like Aroop Biswas and Indranil Sen were present there. The festival committee members like Raj Chakraborty, Parambrata Chatterjee, Santanu Basu and actress Paoli Dam also attended. The physical event will screen around 131 films from 45 countries. These films will include feature films, documentaries and short films. Apart from this, an exhibition on the life and works of Chatterjee will also be organised. Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, who is famous for his films like 'Thappad', 'Mulk' etc will deliver a prestigious Satyajit Ray Memorial Lecture this year. The topic this year is ‘Social Responsibility in mainstream Indian cinema’.
