Kumaraswamy Calls Out Congress Government for Public Criticism and Alleged Land Scam

Bangalore: Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy has criticized the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka, accusing it of engaging in unnecessary conflicts with the Centre. Kumaraswamy, a JD(S) leader who is part of the ruling NDA at the Centre, emphasized that such disputes are counterproductive and urged the state government to resolve issues through discussion rather than public criticism.

Kumaraswamy stated, “The Karnataka government is unnecessarily quarrelling with the Central government. I urge them to stop this mudslinging. Engaging in public criticism will not help. If there are issues, we should discuss them mutually with confidence.” He contended that the Central government has been unjustly criticized and that the problems lie with the state government, not the Centre.

Kumaraswamy, who is focused on the welfare of Karnataka, also highlighted his commitment to national interests, stating that, as a Central Minister, he must address the needs of the entire country. He expressed his determination to meet the expectations set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly in generating employment and contributing to national development. “I hope to fulfill the PM’s vision and make a significant impact,” he added.

He acknowledged that Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP president JP Nadda have confidence in him following the Lok Sabha elections. Kumaraswamy noted that the voters had supported the BJP-JD(S) alliance, and he is committed to living up to the leadership’s expectations for both development and organizational roles.

Kumaraswamy indicated that he would need around three months to familiarize himself with his responsibilities in the Steel and Heavy Industries departments, which are crucial for GDP growth and job creation. “This is my first time working in the Union Government, and there is much to learn,” he said.

He also mentioned his plan to visit various industrial plants to understand ground realities and to develop a strategy for his role in national development over the next two years. Kumaraswamy described the revival of Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) as a significant challenge and noted that he would need to persuade Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on this matter.

Regarding allegations of fraudulent land allotments by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) involving plots allocated to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife, Kumaraswamy termed it a "big scam" and accused the Congress government of attempting to cover it up. “This government is not functioning well, and we will address these issues both in the Assembly and outside,” he asserted.

On the bypolls for the Channapatna Assembly segment, which he vacated after his Lok Sabha election, Kumaraswamy hinted at a “surprise candidate,” suggesting that developments in this regard are forthcoming.
