Kuwait Fire Victims' Family to Get USD 15,000 Compensation Each

The Kuwaiti government will provide $15,000 as compensation to the families of the victims of a tragic fire in the city of Mangaf, located in the southern Ahmadi Governorate. The fire, which occurred on July 12, claimed the lives of 50 people, including 46 Indians.

According to Kuwaiti authorities, the massive blaze at a seven-story building was caused by an electrical short circuit in the guard's room on the ground floor. The building housed 196 migrant workers, most of whom were Indian nationals.

On the orders of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, each victim's family will receive compensation of $15,000 (approximately Rs 12.5 lakh). This information was reported by the Arab Times on Tuesday. Government sources indicate that the compensation payments will be processed and delivered to the victims' respective embassies for distribution.

The victims included three Filipinos, with the identity of one victim yet to be established. The embassies will ensure that the funds reach the affected families quickly and efficiently. This financial aid is intended to support the bereaved families during this challenging time.

In addition to the Kuwaiti government's compensation, the Indian government has announced Rs 2 lakh for the families of the Indian victims. Furthermore, the Kerala government has pledged Rs 5 lakh in financial assistance to the families of those from the state who perished in the fire. Among the Indian victims, 24 were Malayalis.

Kuwait's public prosecutor has initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to the deadly fire. A Kuwaiti citizen and several foreigners have been arrested on charges of manslaughter and causing injuries due to negligence in security and safety measures.
