Shiv Temple: Where the dead comes alive!

Hinduism has no limits, and we have all witnessed or heard something that was so bizarre that it can only be considered the god’s miracle. News similar to that recently came to the surface in which a very rare Shivling in Lakhamandal temple reflects after performing Jalabhishek (Pouring water on Shivling). Even though there are many Lord Shiva temples which are built all around the world. 

However, there is such a place in Aryavarta where there are unique Shivalingas of millions of years old. Additionally, it is also believed and many have also witnessed that the entire “universe” is visible in this Shivling. This is probably one of the perfect examples of turning a stone into a mirror. The devotees view the full form of the universe when they perform Jalabhishek of this Shivling that is housed in the Lakhamandal temple in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

The people of the village believe that all of their sins go away upon seeing their reflection on this Shivling. The said village is surrounded by the beauty of nature and is 128 km from Lakhamandal Dehradun and is situated on the banks of river Yamuna. The place is mesmerizing and historically rich and is surrounded by caves and ancient ruins of Lord Shiva’s temple. Shivalingas of different sizes and different historical periods have been found in the excavation here.

There are two expertly crafted statues outside Lakhamandal's main shrine. People mistakenly think that these statues represent Arjun and Bheem, Danav and Manav, or even two doormen. The temple contains inscriptions from the Gupta period's 8th to 15th centuries.

Local people believe that no one who comes here returns empty-handed, Lord Mahadev definitely fulfils the wishes of the devotees who come at his rate. 

According to the beliefs, Duryodhana had built a Lakshagriha here in the Mahabharata period to kill the Pandavas by burning them. During his exile, Yudhishthira established Shivling at this place. Which is present in the temple even today. The Shivling present in Lakhamandal is known as Mahamundeshwar. Two gatekeepers are standing in front of this Shivling present in the courtyard of the temple, facing west.

There’s a unique belief that any person who had died was placed in front of these gatekeepers, and then he would come to life after the priest sprinkled the anointed water. In this way, the dead person was brought here and after a few moments, he would be alive again. After being alive, the said person takes the name of Shiva and receives Gangajal. As soon as he receives the Ganges water, his soul again leaves the body and goes away.

Two gatekeepers are seen standing in the form of guards in the rear direction of the temple, one of the two gatekeepers has a severed hand which remains an unsolved mystery.
