Leaders delegation meet CM Sangma over various issues

Meghalaya: A delegation of leaders from several social bodies recently called on Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at his Tura residence and raised a number of issues concerning the people. This delegation consists of the Tura Garo Senior Citizens Forum, New Tura Development Forum and the Garo Graduates’ Union.

What the members demanded is the immediate removal of Ela Begum Lasker from the post of Joint Director of School Education, District School Education Officer and principal of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Tura. They demanded the replacement of the incumbent principal of the College of Teacher Education, Rongkhon, alleging that the official was not competent for the post. They demanded that a qualified and deserving indigenous local be appointed instead.

Flagging the issue of the pending building work of Tura Medical College, they requested the chief minister to speed up the eviction of encroachers from the land belonging to the Tura Civil Hospital.  Another demand put forth by the leaders was the regularization of LP school teachers who were appointed by the state government on a contractual basis and could not pass MTET examinations conducted in 2019. Stating that the teachers, who have been in the profession for years, are unlikely to find another job, they urged the chief minister to regularise the services of the teachers on humanitarian grounds.
