The National ANTI-TERRORISM Day is observed Nationwide in the memory of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The Martyrdom of Mr Gandhi is popularly known as the ANTI-TERRORISM Day which is across the country India is observed on May 21. On this day Rajiv Gandhi passed away and it is the death anniversary of one of the greatest leader of India. On this day in the year 1991, former India’s PM Rajiv Gandhi was killed brutally by terrorist attacks. To honour and respect his contribution every year a two minutes silence is observed across India. The major reason behind this day is to promote unity, peace and harmony across the country. The Anti-Violence Pledge stated as “We, the people of India, having an abiding faith in our country’s tradition of non-violence and tolerance, hereby solemnly affirm to oppose with our strength, all forms of terrorism and violence. We pledge to uphold and promote peace, social harmony, and understand among all fellow human beings and fight the forces of disruption threatening human lives and values.” On this day various other seminars, activities, marches also done in different places. The floral tribute is also laid on the Rajiv Gandhi statue.This day is also aimed at bringing awareness in the country among all sections of people. On this day let us all also take a pledge to reduce the terrorism to the maximum possible extent.
