Ranchi: A Jharkhand court has sentenced the husband and wife found guilty in the infamous Sufia Parveen murder case to life imprisonment. This case also involved an attack on the convoy of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Numerous individuals, including Bhairav Singh, were arrested and sent to jail in connection with the incident. Belal and his wife Afshana Khatoon were arrested on January 14, 2021, in the Sufia Parveen murder case, where Sufia was allegedly killed due to an illicit relationship. Additional Justice MK Verma's court handed life imprisonment to Sheikh Belal and Afshana Khatoon for their roles in Sufia Parveen's murder. The prosecution presented statements from 19 witnesses during the case, which garnered significant attention in Ranchi. The court imposed fines of Rs 95,000 each on the convicted husband and wife. In case of non-payment, an additional sentence of one year has been ordered. On January 3, the police discovered the decapitated body of Sufia Parveen in Ormanjhi, Ranchi. She was identified as a resident of Loyo village in Mandar. The court's verdict brings closure to a case that created a stir in the Ranchi community.
