The excise department's proposal to abolish the validity of special excise duty from April 7 was approved by Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Sundararajan, after which liquor became cheaper in the Union Territory. The additional fee was in May last year to bring prices according to neighbouring states to prevent the arrival of persons, especially from Tamil Nadu to Puducherry, due to the corona epidemic. The Lieutenant Governor had suspended special duty and ordered all pubs, retailers and restaurants to follow safety protocols. According to a press release from the Lieutenant Governor's Office, it was withdrawn after obtaining permission from the Election Commission.
