Fed up with ragging, Jabalpur doctor commits suicide, investigation underway

Bhopal: A doctor committed suicide due to ragging in Madhya Pradesh. The matter came to light on October 1, when the body of Dr. Bhagwat Dewangan was found in Hostel Number Three of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur at around 5 pm. The deceased doctor was said to be a resident of Janjgir Rahoud Nagar Panchayat of Chhattisgarh.

The family members who reached Jabalpur complained to the police that the investigative authorities were shocked. Actually, the investigation has found the case to be related to ragging. While giving information to the family, the police have told that on July 24, Dr Dewangan had tried to commit suicide by getting fed up with ragging, after which the names of five doctors came out in the investigation. The college management did not take any action on those five doctors.

Once again, when he came back from his home to hostel for studies, fellow doctors started ragging with him back, which caused him to be suicidal. On the basis of the statements of family members, the Anti-Ragging Committee of the Police Medical College, along with the Dean of the College, has interrogated fellow junior and senior doctors and started investigating the matter.
