Maharashtra election: Congress releases list of star campaigners, these veterans included

Mumbai: The Congress, which has reached a do-or-die situation in Maharashtra, has started making its preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. After splitting seats with NCP, the Congress has released its list of star campaigners. For the election to be held on October 21, Congress has made a list of its 40-star campaigners campaigning in favour of the candidates. Party president Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh will be star campaigners in this election.

Other veteran campaigners in the list are former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister and Uttar Pradesh party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Sonia, who distanced herself from campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections, has been prominently highlighted in the list of star campaigners. Other prominent campaigners in favour of the candidates are former Maharashtra Chief Ministers Sushil Kumar Shinde, Prithviraj Chavan and Ashok Chavan, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Shatrughan Sinha will also be seen campaigning in favour of Congress candidates. The Congress, which once had a strong presence in Maharashtra, could not establish its feet after the BJP came to power. In the 2014 assembly elections, the Congress was able to win only 42 seats out of a total of 288. The party had to settle for one seat in the 2019 general election.
