Maharashtra: Police arrested BMC employees for cutting tree

Maharashtra: The Girgaum police arrested five people from Mahim on Saturday. In fact, the police have arrested these five people on the charge of cutting a banyan tree of the British era. It is being told that all these five were working as a BMC employee cutting down trees. During this time, everyone also wore clothes from BMC. This is why no one stopped them. Police say those arrested told them that a commercial hoarding was not clearly visible due to the banyan tree. He says this is why he did this work.

If he had not done this, he would not have got the right price to install commercial hoardings. However, the police have also told in this case that 'the accused have confessed to cutting many more trees in the city'. Regarding the case, a police officer says, 'Nobody suspected the accused, as they pretended to be BMC employees. Whenever someone inquires, the accused would claim permission.'

According to the information received in this case, on Wednesday, some locals saw the banyan tree being cut near Girgaum Chowpatty and complained to the concerned BMC officer about it. After his complaint, the first FIR was registered against unknown persons at MRA Marg Police Station. The complaint was also shared with Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray, who told the Mumbai Police about taking necessary action. Finally, on Saturday, the police arrested the accused.
