Solapur: A farmer from Solapur in Maharashtra has recently sought major permission from the district administration. In fact, the farmer has sought permission to grow (Ganja) cannabis plants in his field. It has sought permission saying that the market gets a good price for the contrast and claimed that there is no fixed price for any agricultural produce. On the other hand, the district administration sent the farmer's application to the police, which termed it a 'publicity stunt.' Let me tell all of you that cannabis cultivation in Maharashtra, also known as marijuana, is prohibited under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In his application to the Solapur District Collector, Anil Patil, a farmer from Mohol tehsil in Solapur, said, "There was no fixed price (MSP) for any crop and therefore, the agribusiness was running at a loss.'' At the same time, Anil in his petition also said, "Since agricultural yields are low, farming is becoming difficult. Even the input cost of cultivation of any crop is not recovered. The arrears of sugarcane sold to sugar mills have not been paid.'' Further claiming that cannabis has a good price in the market, Anil Patil has sought permission to cultivate it on his two acres of land. Yes, and he has also asked the district administration to allow them to grow cannabis in their fields by September 15. Anil says he will start farming from September 16 if the administration does not do so, assuming he has been allowed to do so. Anil Patil in his application said, "If an offense is registered against me for cannabis cultivation, the administration will be responsible.'' However, Senior Inspector Ashok Saikar of Mohol police station said that 'the farmer's application was just a 'publicity stunt.' If he resorted to such an act (cultivation of cannabis), we would register as a crime against him.'
