Mahindra XUV400 EV set to launch Soon; The rival Tata Nexon EV

Mahindra has started road testing its first mainstream electric SUV, which is expected to hit the market in 2024. This new electric SUV will be based on the Mahindra XUV300 and will most likely be branded as the XUV400 whenever it goes on sale.

The test mule appears to be based on the XUV300 at first sight. The body appears to be production-spec, with no dummy parts attached, based on the way the car has been hidden. A charging plug can be seen on the front left fender, indicating that this isn't a conventional internal combustion engine car. The mule also sits much lower than the ordinary XUV300 and has standard steel wheels rather than alloys, as shown in these spy shots.

While the front of this test mule isn't visible, we expect the electric SUV will have a closed grille and distinctive aesthetic features, like blue highlights, to set it apart from the combustion engine counterpart, akin to the concept eXUV300.

A few months ago, the company declared that by 2027, it will debut eight electric vehicles. Four of these will come from the company's petrol and diesel options. Then, starting in 2025, Mahindra will introduce four new SUVs that will be built on a "born-electric" chassis that is intended from the ground up to be electrified. The business has also stated that it intends to create a unique sub-brand for its electric car line.
