Cuttack: A massive fire broke out in Sun Hospital, a multi-specialty private hospital at Tulasipur, Odisha today, triggering panic among patients, attendants and staff. Although the reason behind the blaze has not been immediately identified, short-circuit is suspected to be the cause of the mishap. As many as five fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the flame that spread in the multi-story hospital building. Thick smoke is seen emanating from the top floor of the building. According to the reports, critical patients are being shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital and other health care centres in the city.No loss of life or injuries has been reported so far. Collector, Cuttack and the Cuttack Municipality Corporation (CMC) Commissioner have rushed to the spot to supervise the fire fighting and rescue operations. Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani informed that all the patients undergoing treatment at the hospital have been safely evacuated. “As many as eleven patients were undergoing treatment and all have been safely evacuated to other hospitals in the city. The flame has been brought under control due to timely action by the fire services personnel. The Fire Services Department is investigating the circumstances that led to such a mishap. An investigation will also be carried out whether the hospital followed the fire safety norms.” Fire-fighters are using snorkels and ladders to reach upto the affected area located on the top floor of the hospital.
