Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge gets emotional after taking command

New Delhi: Newly elected Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took over the reins of the party. Mallikarjun Kharge, who defeated Shashi Tharoor in the election for the post of Congress President, today morning i.e. on Wednesday morning Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, members of Congress Working Committee, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, President of State Congress Committees and other members of the party. In the presence of leaders took over as the party president at the Congress headquarters. Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat this morning before taking over the reins of Congress.

During this, Mallikarjun Kharge said in his address that today the son of a labourer has become the President of Congress. This is an emotional moment for me. Thank you all for giving me this honour. Remembering all the old presidents of Congress, I want to assure you that whatever is possible with my hard work and experience, I will do and you too will have to fight with all your might. That's my appeal. Today, on this occasion, on behalf of crores of Congress workers, I would like to express my gratitude for the valuable contribution of Sonia Gandhi. I remember the day of January 15, 1998, when you said in your first public meeting in high school in Bangalore that I am taking political education from Karnataka, since then you have worked hard and handled the Congress. In this era of those who do politics only for power, you have set an example of sacrifice.

The same Sonia Gandhi in her address congratulated Kharge and said that today I will be relieved of great responsibility. She said you always gave me cooperation and support. Now, this responsibility has come on Kharge Ji. Change is the rule of nature. There are many challenges before our party today. The biggest challenge is the crisis that has arisen in front of the country today for democratic values, how do we deal with it successfully? The way Congress President is democratically elected, I am sure that in the same way all the workers and leaders of the party together will become such a force, which can successfully face the troubles before our great country. The Congress faced troubles before, but the party never gave up.
