Kolkata: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Rajesh Bindal urging him to hand over his petition to another bench other than Justice Kaushik Chanda. The matter will come up for hearing next week on Thursday (June 24, 2021). In fact, CM Mamata Banerjee had filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court alleging irregularities in the Nandigram election results. Mamata had on Friday (June 18, 2021) questioned the judge hearing the petition and termed him a member of the BJP. CM Mamata's lawyer Sanjay Basu claimed, 'My client has a lot of faith in the judicial system and the court" In the letter, he alleged, "Justice Kaushik Chanda, who is hearing the petition, has been an active member of the BJP. The decision on the election petition will have political implications". Basu has urged the court to hand over Mamata's plea challenging the Nandigram election case to another bench. He further said, "If the election petition is heard before the judge, my client is likely to have a bias on the part of the judge in favour of and against the defendant".
