The Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is going to be held on January 8th. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the 26th edition of Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) virtually from Nabanna Sabhaghar. From last few months, no films will be screened in any private theatres due to the Covid crisis. Indranil Sen, Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs Department, showed her gratitude to the Chief Minister Mamata for her encouragement to hold the festival following Covid guidelines. Raj Chakraborty, the festival's Chairman, said, "Just like every previous year, this time also the inauguration of KIFF will be done by the Chief Minister but this time it will be virtually from Nabanna Sabhaghar." Exhibitions on the life and works of Soumitra Chatterjee, Federico Fellini, Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Bhanu Bandyopadhyay will also be held. The Kolkata International Film Festival was pushed from its original date in November due to the corona pandemic and now it will going to be held. Satyajit Ray’s classic film Apur Sansar will be filmed at the inauguration ceremony for celebrating the filmmaker's birth anniversary as well as to honour legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who passed away in 2020.
