Mamata reschedules two districts' programmes due to Cyclone Asani

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has postponed her three-day programme in Jhargram and Paschim Medinipur districts by a week due to cyclone 'Asani,' a senior official said.

The chief minister's visit to the two districts, which was originally slated for May 10 to 12, has been pushed back a week, to May 17-19, he added. The Bengal government issued a statement saying, "The districts need to prepare to resist the storm, therefore the deferral."

The chief minister will hold an administrative meeting on May 17 at Medinipore College grounds and a party gathering the next day at the same location before departing for Jhargram, according to the official. "At around 5 p.m. in Jhargram, she would hold an administrative meeting." Before returning to Kolkata, she will also hold a party meeting there on May 19," he said.

Banerjee will look  into the situation of several state-run social initiatives operating in both districts during the meetings, he added.
