Man detained for killing teen after sexual assault in Coimbatore

Chennai: In Coimbatore, a 44-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a Class 10 student and then killing her and dumping her body near a wasteyard. Muthukumar, the accused, is a construction worker who knew the 14-year-old victim's family.

On December 13, the girl's mother filed a report with the East Ramanathapuram all-women police station, claiming that her daughter had been missing since December 11. The woman had been living with her mother and two daughters, (aged 17 and 14), since she had been separated from her husband for eight years.

According to the woman's complaint, her younger daughter was left alone at home after she, her mother, and her elder daughter went to work, and when she returned home by 4 p.m., the girl was gone and her cellphone had been turned off. The girl's decaying body was found with her wrists and feet tied and a rope around her neck as authorities opened an inquiry on Thursday.

Muthukumar, who had borrowed 2.5 sovereigns of gold from the teen's mother, had reportedly summoned the girl to his residence under the premise of repaying the gold, according to the probe. After that, he sexually raped her before killing her.
