Man finds his Birth Parents after 33 years

A man who was abandoned at London’s Gatwick Airport more than 33 years ago has finally managed to track down his real parents.

Steve Hydes, also known as Gary Gatwick, was found inside a toilet at the airport’s South terminal in the year 1986. As the whereabouts of his parents could not be discovered, locals and airport officials decided to name him after the airport’s official mascot.

More than 33 years after Hydes was found in the toilet, medical experts have found who his real parents are after examining DNA samples, reported prominent news daily. Sadly, Hydes’ mother had passed away before he could meet him.

“After 15 years of searching, I am happy to confirm that with the very hard work of Genetic Genealogists, CeCe Moore and Helen Riding we have been able to trace and confirm my birth family. Unfortunately, my birth mum has passed away so I am unable to find out exactly what happened and why,” Hydes expressed his happiness through a Facebook post.

“As you can imagine this is quite a sensitive issue to all involved and very new to us all, but I wanted to take this time to thank everyone for their continued support over the years,” Hydes wrote on Facebook.

He thanked DNA experts and gynaecologists for their work and hoped his story can help raise awareness and prevent babies from being abandoned. Steve was dressed in a baby gown and wrapped in a blanket when he was found on April 10, 1986, by a duty-free sales assistant. At that time, he was just 10 days old.

He had been on the hunt for his parents since his teenage years and has made regular appeals to the public through pamphlets, magazine articles, and blogs.
