Imphal: Five MLAs of the Janata Dal (United) to the BJP, the Opposition Congress has said that the party will move to the High Court since the “merger” of five JD(U) is in violation of the provisions of the tenth schedule of the constitution.

Five JD(U) MLAs (Khumukcham Joykishan, Ngursanglor Sanata, Ashab Uddin, Thangjam Arunkumar, and L.M. Khoute) joined the governing BJP in a late-night political move. As per the bulletin issued from the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat, the merger was carried out in accordance with the constitution's 10th schedule's provisions.
State JD(U) President Kshetrimayum Biren responded to the incident by saying that the party would petition the High Court to have these five MLAs removed from office because their actions violated the terms of the 10th schedule. The last remaining JD(U) MLA is Mohammad Abdul Nasir. He has also hurried to Delhi, and everyone is eagerly awaiting the news of his position.
There had been hints that the six JD(U) MLAs in Manipur would break ties with the BJP-led coalition government after the JD(U) withdrew its support for the party elsewhere. JD(U) ran 38 candidates in the most recent Assembly elections, but only took home six seats. In the House of 60 members, the BJP had secured 32 seats. Only five seats were won by the utterly defeated opposition Congress.
