Manipur orders re-polling in 12 polling stations, Here is why

According to Manipur Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Agrawal, the Election Commission ordered re-voting in 12 polling stations across five Assembly constituencies on Saturday (March 5).

The suggestion for re-polling in 12 polling stations in two districts — Imphal East and Churachandpur — was proposed by the CEO based on facts and information received from the respective returning officers. Miscreants damaged Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during and after the first round of polling on February 28, he stated, which was one of the main reasons for considering re-polling.

Agrawal stated that all voters at these polling sites are encouraged to exercise their right to vote in large numbers, and that the inconvenience caused by the occurrences on February 28 is regretted. According to the CEO, 88.63 percent of the total of 12,09,439 people exercised their right to vote in the first phase of the election on February 28 in 38 Assembly parts. "Not only do female electors outweigh male electors in the gender ratio, but female electors have also shown greater excitement in voter turnout in the first phase of polling," the official stated. In the two-phased elections for the 60-seat Manipur Assembly, women account for roughly 52 percent of the overall electorate of 20,48,169 votes. In the current 12th Manipur Assembly elections, women voters outnumbered men voters by 10,57,336 to 9,90,627, like in previous elections.

On Saturday, the second round of elections in the remaining 22 Assembly constituencies will take place, with the votes will be counted on March 10.
