Market End Flat; GAIL Top Gainer

Indian indices recovered day's losses and closed flat post Pfizer's vaccine approval, with the NSE Nifty still holding to 13113, up just by 4.7 points, while BSE Sensex was ended to 44618, down 37 points in muted trade, on Wednesday. Top gainers in trade today have been GAIL India, ONGC, Adani Ports, Asian Paints, while losers have been Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Britannia Industries and Shree Cements. Among sectoral indices, banks were the major losers in today's session with the Nifty Bank index ending 1.2 percent lower. The PSU Bank index also fell 0.5 percent in today's session.

Metals and Realty stocks continued their outperformance. The Realty index ended 3 percent higher while the Metal index gained 2.6 percent. The Nifty Auto index ended 1 percent higher while other indices closed with a positive bias. Broader markets were mixed in today's session. The Midcap index gained 0.5 percent while the Smallcap index ended unchanged.

Pfizer stock gained 5 percent after its vaccine got approved in the UK. Also, Nifty Midcap 100 for the first time ever clocked levels of over 20000. Meanwhile, European indices were trading with gains on the FTSE and losses on DAX and CAC at the time of writing this copy. US Stock futures pointed to a weak opening with losses on all the indices.
