Markets closed higher; banking stocks performs

Share Markets traded with a positive momentum throughout the day recovering the majority of the loses posted in yesterday’s trading session. Bank Nifty outperformed the Nifty index by about 2 percent with both the indices trending higher, closing the day with the gains of   1 and 3 percent respectively.

Broader markets also supported the rally as mid-caps surged higher. At closing, the BSE Sensex ended 376 points to 40,522.10 while the NSE Nifty50 index ended at 11889.40, up 119 points. Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with Nifty Mid-cap100 and Nifty Small-cap100 indexes closing 1.21 percent and 0.2 percent higher respectively.

Except Nifty IT, Nifty Realty and PSU Bank, all sectors ended in the green. Technology (IT) index remained the worst-performing sector of the day while Nifty Private Bank was the best-performing index of the day, settling 3 percent higher.  Kotak Mahindra Bank, Nestle India, Asian Paints, Shree Cement, and Bajaj Finance were the Nifty50 top gainers while HDFC, TCS, ONGC, Infosys, and Wipro and remained the index top losers.
