Strong and continuous blasts occurred in the biggest fireworks market of Tultepec city, situated in the northern outskirts of the city. The incident had killed at least of 26 people as per the latest records and many have suffered burnt injuries.
One of the eyewitnesses Crescencia Francisco Garcia said, "I was in the middle of the grid of stalls along with a few hundred others when the thunderous explosions began. I was frozen, and reflexively looked up at the sky and then took off running through the smoke once I realized everyone was doing so. As I ran I saw people with burns and cuts, and lots of blood."
"Everything was catching fire. Everything was exploding," she added. "The stones were flying, pieces of brick, everything was flying."
The chief investigator of Mexico city, Alejandro Gomez had earlier reported death count to be 9 which soon increased to be 26 and 70 wounded.
The cause of explosion is yet to be identified.
