Lucknow: BSP supremo Mayawati's reaction to saturday's announcement of an alliance between Bahujan Samaj party (BSP) and Shiromani Akali Dal in view of Punjab assembly elections has surfaced. He congratulated the people and claimed that the alliance will mark the beginning of a new era in Punjub.

Former UP CM Mayawati tweeted, "The alliance announced by shiromani Akali Dal and BAHUJan Samaj Party today in Punjab is a new political and social initiative that will surely usher in a new era of much-awaited development, progress and prosperity of the people in the state. Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the people for this historic step.' She further wrote in a tweet that "Although every section of the society in Punjab is facing poverty, corruption and unemployment, etc., under the congress party rule, it is being hit the most on dalits, farmers, youth and women etc. It is very important to make this bond of yours successful in order to get rid of it.'
Mayawati further wrote that "There is a strong appeal to the entire people of Punjab to meet the Akali Dal and the BSP. In full support of this historic alliance held today, join hands in forming a government of this alliance in the assembly general elections to be held here in early 2022".
