MCD Polls underway: Kejriwal holds meeting with AAP leaders

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met with his deputy Manish Sisodia and other senior AAP leaders on Wednesday at his home amidst counting of votes cast in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections was taking place.

Senior party figure Raghav Chaddha and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann were also present. Speaking before the media persons at the party headquarters, spokesperson Sanjeev Jha said that the Mayor will be from AAP.

"The BJP had covered Delhi similar to garbage,  and it will  be cleaned and Arvind Kejriwal's government will be formed in MCD. People of Delhi had decided to bring Aam Aaadmi Party in MCD so that Delhi become clean and beautiful," he remarked.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has announced the results, showing that the AAP has won 75 seats and the BJP has secured 54. 

Out of the 250 wards, a total of 82% of the votes have been counted so far. To win, a party needs to secure 126 wards.

Lok Sabha adjourned till Mid-noon: Meanwhile, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 12 p.m. on Wednesday after obituary marks were made for sitting MP Mulayam Singh Yadav, who had passed away on October 10, 2022. Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House soon after obituary references were read for nine members, including Yadav.

Earlier, PM Narendra Modi had urged members to ensure smooth functioning of both Houses of Parliament, while addressing media persons on the first day of Winter session.
