Rajya Sabha floor leaders to meet ahead of July 19 session

New Delhi: Upper House leaders will meet on July 17 ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament beginning July 19. The meeting of house leaders of all parties will be held at the house of Chairman of the House M Venkaiah Naidu. In this meeting, Venkaiah Naidu may appeal to all parties to help the House run smoothly.

The central government has convened an all-party meeting on Sunday ahead of the monsoon session.  According to media reports, sources said parliamentary affairs minister Prahlad Joshi has called leaders of various political parties for the meeting. PM Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the meeting. Such all-party meetings are convened before the session begins to ensure smooth functioning of the House. The hike in petrol-diesel and LPG prices during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, the alleged failure to deal with Covid-19 properly, farmers' agitation against the three agricultural laws and vaccination are likely to corner the central government by the opposition.

Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had said on Monday that the meeting of both the Houses will begin at 11 am at the same time. The monsoon session of Parliament begins on July 19 and will continue till August 13. The monsoon session, which usually begins in July, began in September last year due to the corona virus epidemic.
