Meta's Threads Unveils Trending Topics Feature: What You Need to Know

Meta's Threads, the messaging platform, is launching a new feature that resembles the trending topics seen on X (formerly Twitter). Since its inception last year, users have been urging Instagram to incorporate this trending feature into Threads.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, confirmed this development through his Threads account. He announced that the company is initiating a small-scale trial of daily trending topics in the United States. Additionally, he mentioned plans to expand this feature to other countries and languages in the near future.

Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, also affirmed the rollout of the "Today's Topics" feature. It will be accessible on the search page and the user's personalized "For You" feed. Mosseri explained that the trending topics will be curated by Meta's AI systems, focusing on subjects that users are currently engaging with, including political trends.

Mosseri emphasized, "For those who have been advocating for a trending feature, we're conducting a trial in the US to help you discover relevant topics. These topics will be featured on Threads' search page and in the For You feed, determined by our AI systems based on ongoing user engagement. Our team will review these selections to ensure accuracy, especially regarding political trends."

So, how does Meta determine the trending topics? The "Today's Topics" section is curated using a machine learning algorithm. This algorithm considers various factors, such as the number of users discussing a particular topic and the level of interaction with posts related to that topic.
