Patra's name ahead for the post of RBI Deputy Governor, 3 economists and IAS officers also in the race

New Delhi: The race to appoint the deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India includes Michael Patra, the executive director of the central bank and Chetan Ghat, an external member in the MPC. The Financial Sector Regulatory Appointments Search Committee is believed to have interviewed 10 candidates for this appointment, for which, apart from Patra and Ghat, three other economists and two IAS officers are also involved.

Chetan Ghate is an external member of the RBI's MPC, while Michael Devvrat Patra is currently the Executive Director of the RBI. Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Chhatrapati Shivaji has also been told that his name has been included in the list of candidates for Deputy Governor of RBI. He has been the CEO of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and is currently the Executive Director of India at the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The bureaucrat Arunish Chawla, currently posted in the Economic Branch of the Indian Embassy in Washington and Manoj Govil, Principal Finance Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, may also have been interviewed for the post. However, no official notice has been given regarding the November 7 interview for the post of Deputy Governor of RBI. The economists from outside the central bank have been appointed to this position. This post of deputy governor has remained vacant since Viral Acharya resigned. Before Acharya, Urjit Patel was on this post, who later became the Governor of RBI. Viral Acharya's last working day at the central bank was 23 July.
