Michigan State University shooting spree leaves five people injured

Michigan: At least five people were shot on Monday night at Michigan State University, with some of them receiving critical wounds. This prompted hundreds of officers to search the campus for the shooter, who is still at large, according to police.

At the East Lansing campus, which is located about 145 kilometers northwest of Detroit, students were told to stay put for hours.

According to Chris Rozman, interim deputy chief of campus police, the shootings started just before 8:30 p.m. at Berkey Hall, an academic building, and took place nearby at the student union, a well-liked gathering place.

Short, wearing red shoes, a jean jacket, and sporting a ball cap, was how he described the suspect. Numerous officers from various agencies, according to Rozman, were on campus. He pleaded with parents to abstain.

"I can only imagine the feelings that are present at this moment... We are making every effort to keep our campus and all of our students safe, according to Rozman.

According to hospital spokesperson John Foren, the five victims were taken to Sparrow Hospital. He was unsure of the victims' conditions. Police reported that Berkey and the nearby residence halls had been secured by 10:15 p.m. Police also reported a shooting at the student recreation center IM East.

Junior Aedan Kelley said he covered his windows and locked his doors "just in case" because his home is less than a kilometer east of the university. He claimed there were continuous sirens and an overhead helicopter. Everything is very terrifying," said Kelley. "And then I get all these texts from people asking if I'm OK," she continued.

All campus activities, including athletics and classes, were postponed for 48 hours, according to an announcement made by the authorities late on Monday. People were urged not to visit campus on Tuesday via Twitter.

There are about 50,000 students at Michigan State. Police were preventing people from leaving the East Lansing High School auditorium, where a school board meeting was taking place Monday night, according to the Lansing State Journal.
