THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A group of migrant labourers from West Bengal assaulted a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) on a train from Ernakulam to Howrah on Tuesday morning after he penalised them for travelling without a ticket. The incident occurred between Ernakulam and Aluva, when a group of about ten migrant labourers banded together and thrashed Ticket Examiner Bessy, a resident of Ernakulam district. The TTE was sitting and writing the penalty when he was attacked by the labourers, who tossed out his phone and files in the ensuing scuffle. When the train arrived at Thrissur station, however, two of the attackers were apprehended by the Railway Police, while the rest managed to flee. The injured Railway officer was brought to a state-run hospital in Thrissur before being shifted to a leading private hospital for treatment. According to reports, the official has told the police that he would be able to identify his tormentors, and the case will now be probed by the local police as well.
