Fake COVID-19 vaccination camps across the country are becoming a threat to the fight against the virus. While a number of arrests have been made in connection with these unauthorized camps in major cities, Kolkata has now witnessed one such incident. A man was booked on thanks to actor-MP Mimi Chakraborty’s initiative. Incidentally, Mimi herself was duped by a middle-aged man who was posing as an IAS officer and urged the actress to attend a COVID-19 vaccination camp organized at Kasba area in the Southern fringes of Kolkata. Mimi was present at the vaccination camp and she herself got vaccinated to boost the morale of the people in order to inspire them to get vaccinated. The accused person has already been arrested and identified as Debanjan Deb. He had orchestrated a vaccination drive posing as Joint Commissioner of Calcutta Corporation (IAS rank). The man was taken into custody after Mimi alerted the police. The actress became suspicious when she didn’t get any message after getting vaccinated. She had also enquired about the post-vaccination certificate but Debanjan informed that she will receive it after a few hours. Later, the actor-politician through her team checked and found that none of the vaccinated persons at the camp got any message after taking the shot. Also, none of them received any vaccination certificates. Sensing something is not right, she immediately called the police and the organizer was arrested.
